Just a quick post on a new independent cafe that has appeared in the chain-opoly that is central Cambridge. Stickybeaks Cafe is tucked away on Hobson Street and offers a daily changing lunch menu, along with a range of cakes and drinks. I popped in for a late lunch yesterday with the male companion person and had a very nice (and at £4, reasonably priced) frittata with crab and artichoke, while he had a selection of salads.
It seemed rude not to sample some cakes too, so along with a genuinely chocolate-y hot chocolate I had a lamington which was light and not too sweet either.
I liked Stickybeaks. It wasn't doing anything amazing but it had a bright, homely interior and provides an alternative to the numerous Costas, Neros and Starbucks that populate the town centre.
I suspect it's going to be popular though and they could really do with trying to increase their seating, as once the word is out nabbing a table may become rather tricky.Stickybeaks Cafe

Thanks for the speedy comment! Totally endorse that about the food- and it was all very tasty. My only concern was the seating really as we had to do quite a bit of lurking before there was a free table!

Lamingtons are amazing, I love them an dyou'd can't get them much though I think they are a very Antipodean thing. Maybe the owners are Aussies?
I hope they open an outpost in Oxford, can't move for chains, can't get a decent piece of cake easily
I first heard about lamingtons on Neighbours so definitely associate them with Australia (also had a free one from Quantas at Brisbane due to a flight delay). Didn't detect any Aussie accents here though, but am still grateful for quality cake!
I'm a Cambridge student and I love trying the cafes that aren't chain owned (I would recommend Tatties on Trinity Street next time, they do all sorts of pastries like baklava and other yummy things :)
Am going to try this place and the lamington when I'm back next term! :D
